Animals and Philosophy

Department(s)

Course Description

Our lives are intertwined with the lives of animals. We eat them, wear them, and experiment on them, and yet we also consider them family members. What are animals such that they can serve all of these purposes? We will engage this question through two interrelated pathways. We will try to understand the mental lives of non-human animals. And we will try to define the moral dimensions of our relationship to animals.
