General Chemistry II

Course Description

The second semester of a yearlong atoms-first general chemistry course. The topics covered are: thermodynamics (including enthalpy, entropy, and free energy); chemical equilibrium; acids, bases, buffers, and titrations; solubility equilibria; coordination chemistry; electrochemistry, kinetics; and nuclear chemistry. Problem-solving involves the use of more sophisticated algebraic manipulation than found in Chemistry 125, including logarithms and the quadratic equation. Course fee: $40. Prerequisite: Chemistry 125. Corequisite: Chemistry 136. Distribution areas: Quantitative Analysis, Scientific Inquiry.
