History 150-A: ST: Conjuring New Orleans

From the original inhabitants to swashbuckling explorers to nuns to coerced laborers, this course examines the forces that combined to shape the early years of New Orleans, including being a center of commerce, slavery, rebellion, and cultural meetings as well as a site of colonial contestation. We will explore these years through primary sources as well as virtual sites of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century historical locations. Students will produce written source evaluations and create a brief final project. Distribution areas: Social Sciences, Studying the Past.
