This course is a study of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, Friedrich Schelling, and G.W.F. Hegel, three German thinkers who, in different ways, are responding to the critical philosophy of Immanuel Kant, who is also a major figure covered in the course. Topics in this course are these four thinkers' views on the nature of the self and knowledge, freedom and morality, beauty and art, history and reason, and God and religion. May be taken for credit toward the German Studies major or minor.
