If everything has a price, should it? Are some things not for sale, no matter the asking price? What kinds of people do we become when we buy and sell labor, body parts, sex, and the means of survival? In this class we will explore the intersection of market economies and moral orders, exploring the implications of buying, selling, and marketing certain kinds of goods. Topics to be explored include the ethics of selling sex, the hazards of markets for organs, the exploitation of workers in the labor market, and the conflict between neoliberal market politics and the supposed moral limits of the market.
