This course provides an overview of the underlying processes of vision, audition, and the other senses. Major topics covered include the physiological, psychological, and philosophical aspects of perception in humans and non-human species, and their relation to goal-directed action in the environment. The course integrates research, theory, and application with the goal of understanding the methods and implications of different approaches to the study of perception. The readings will include a textbook, and scientific articles. Assessment may include quizzes, exams, and discussion of relevant topics. Satisfies the Cognitive/Learning/Physiological foundation area major requirement. May be taken for credit toward the Brain, Behavior, and Cognition major. Prerequisite: Psychology 110; or equivalent.
