Course Description
Economic activity is unevenly distributed across space, including within city limits. In this class, we will explore common economic challenges in urban areas, emphasizing how these issues vary across different parts of a city. We will discuss the economic framework of urban spaces, examining the interrelationships among key factors such as location, land use, socioeconomic conditions, population demographics, commercial activities, transportation, and housing. Additionally, we will learn how to visualize data and communicate economic insights, as well as conduct statistical analyses to identify and discuss variations in economic activity across urban environments. Prerequisites: Economics 227 (or Mathematics & Statistics 128 or 247); and Economics 307 and 327. Distribution area: Social Sciences.
