Course Description
This course offers a foundational introduction to the field of Public Health, examining how societies promote health, prevent disease, and address health inequities at the population level. Course topics may include models and approaches that govern Public Health research and practice; major causes of morbidity and mortality; the socioeconomic, behavioral, and environmental factors that affect health; the analytical methods used in Public Health; U.S. health care systems, policy, and health equity; and current challenges in measuring and improving population health; and communicating public health messages. Emphasizing critical thinking, civic engagement, and real-world application, the class incorporates readings, discussions, written and oral presentations, group work, exams, and/or applied projects.
